A SPECIAL MENTION · CLOSE TO OUR HEARTS

Inside Rock Café.
Our home in Bergen.

This is where Mensa Bergen holds its regular pub evenings — and where a good deal of Silvensa was planned, one conversation at a time.

Is it the fanciest place in Bergen? Perhaps not. Is it where we feel at home? Absolutely. Come for one of our favourite burgers in town, something to drink and a good conversation. Stay for board games, shuffleboard or billiards, and simply unwind. No dress code for making friends.

A little welcome for visiting Mensans

During Silvensa (28 December–1 January), visiting international Mensa members enjoy 20% off selected items, including burgers. Inside is known for its relaxed atmosphere and affordable prices — a welcome combination in Bergen. The prices are friendly. The people even friendlier. And for Mensa Bergen, this place feels like home. Ask the staff which items are included and confirm any conditions before ordering.

A personal recommendation from the local organisers, not an official scheduled Silvensa activity. The venue currently states that guests of all ages are welcome until 22:30, with a 20+ age limit afterwards. Check New Year opening hours before visiting.

Vegetarian, pescatarian or allergies?

Bergen restaurants are generally used to dietary requests. Tell the restaurant clearly when booking, especially for serious allergies; do not rely on a menu icon alone.

Price shorthand

Cheap eats can still be NOK 100–200+ (≈ €9–19+), while a normal sit-down main is often roughly NOK 200–400+ (≈ €19–37+). Drinks can move the total quickly.

Prices & exchange rates: NOK meal prices vary; € equivalents are estimates. Check menu prices and your bank/card exchange rate and fees. Currency calculator ↗

Beer & Norwegian cider

🍏 Hardanger cider: award-winning apple country

Sider frå Hardanger has protected geographical status, like an origin designation for wine. Producers have earned prizes at home and abroad. Often dry, fresh and beautifully suited to food, it can surprise visitors expecting sugary cider. Think orchard terroir, not fizzy apple soda.

AWARD-WINNING HARDANGER CIDER

Siderbar Bergen

This is where to discover Sider frå Hardanger: a protected regional speciality made from Hardanger apples, with fine acidity, delicate fruit and everything from dry to sparkling styles. Local producers have won national and international cider awards. Ask for a tasting or help choosing a producer — it is much more than a sweet supermarket cider.

🧭
Do not only walk along the front of Bryggen.

Go through the wooden passages between the buildings. The narrow internal alleys and courtyards are half the point.
