INDEPENDENT WINTER EXTENSION · VOSS

Silvensa ends.
Winter begins.

Take the train out of Bergen, step off beside your hotel, walk next door to the gondola, and take the gondola up to the resort. Voss may be the easiest possible way to add a Norwegian winter holiday to Silvensa.

THE RIDICULOUSLY EASY VERSION

No car. No ski bag. No problem.

The railway station, hotel and gondola form one compact transport hub. This is an independent trip idea, not an organised Silvensa tour: check January operations and book your own travel, accommodation and activities.

01

Take the train from Bergen

Vy puts Bergen–Voss at roughly 1 hour 10 minutes. The train stops in the centre of Voss.

02

Walk to your hotel

Scandic Voss is right beside the station. No transfer. No taxi. No dramatic dragging of suitcases through snow.

03

Walk next door to the gondola

Voss Gondol leaves from the station area and reaches Hangurstoppen at 820 metres in 8 minutes 48 seconds.

04

Step out into the ski resort

The top station is in Voss Resort. Ski rental, ski school and Hangurstoppen Restaurant are all right there.

VOSS RESORT

Arrive with a suitcase. Leave as a skier.

You do not need to own ski equipment. Voss Resort can supply almost everything between your feet and the snow.

WINTER 2026/27

The lifts are already waiting for us.

The 2026/27 winter season runs from 11 December to 11 April, with the ski resort open every day from 18 December. Evening skiing runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during the season.

Voss Resort lists 10 lifts and 24 pistes, with terrain for beginners through experienced skiers. The gondola is included in every ski pass.

🎿 SKI RENTAL

Rent the entire setup

Alpine skis, snowboard, boots, poles and helmets are available. Complete adult ski/snowboard sets currently start from NOK 605 per day.

You can also rent cross-country skis at Hangurstoppen. Online rental should be booked at least 48 hours ahead when available.

🧑‍🏫 NEVER SKIED?

That is what ski school is for.

The ski school is based at Hangurstoppen, so beginners can arrive by gondola, collect equipment and get professional instruction without first learning Norwegian mountain logistics.

🌲 NOT AN ALPINE SKIER?

There are 18 km of cross-country trails.

Voss Gondol also gives access to the cross-country network at the top. You can rent cross-country equipment at Hangurstoppen and have a considerably calmer relationship with gravity.

🍲 IMPORTANT MOUNTAIN TECHNOLOGY

There is a restaurant at the top.

Hangurstoppen Restaurant sits beside the gondola station and serves hot and cold food made with local ingredients. Capacity: 450 people. Norway has solved the problem of becoming hungry at 820 metres.

BASE CAMP

Scandic Voss.

The strongest argument for staying here is not one single hotel feature. It is the fact that the station, hotel, gondola and town centre are all effectively on top of each other.

RIGHT BESIDE VOSS STATION

Your ski holiday headquarters.

Scandic Voss has 215 rooms and sits immediately beside the train station. The gondola is the hotel's next-door neighbour.

🧖

Ski. Sauna. Repeat.

The hotel has both a gym and mixed sauna. Very useful after spending a day discovering muscles you had previously only encountered in anatomy diagrams.

🔥

Haik Restaurant

The hotel restaurant centres its menu around a closed charcoal grill and seasonal/local ingredients. Dinner is currently served every evening.

🥃

Haik Bar

Drinks, snacks, views and shuffleboard. Because apparently even the post-ski recovery phase needs competitive elements.

Check the offers tab

Scandic currently advertises member pricing and longer-stay offers. Availability and winter pricing will vary, so check the hotel directly for the post-Silvensa dates.

A VERY PLAUSIBLE POST-TOUR

Two nights. Almost no planning.

You can make this longer, obviously. Norway will happily continue taking your holiday days until you intervene.

1 JAN

Recover, then head east.

Finish Silvensa. Have brunch. Take an afternoon train Bergen → Voss. Check into Scandic. Sauna, dinner at Haik, and an early night for anyone who remembers what those are.

2 JAN

Walk next door. Go skiing.

Breakfast. Gondola. Rental gear. Full day at Voss Resort. Lunch at Hangurstoppen. Gondola back down. Sauna. Dinner. This is almost suspiciously efficient.

3 JAN

One more mountain morning.

Ski, cross-country, take the gondola just for the view, or explore Voss. Then continue by train toward Bergen, Oslo or the next unreasonable idea.

THE POST-SILVENSA PROBLEM

Eventually you have to go home.

We cannot help with that part.

But we can postpone it by putting a mountain between you and the airport.
